Christmas Celebration

Christmas Celebrations

Christmas is upon us once again  and our CHIP committee ( Community Helping Illuminate Portglenone) have put in  a tremendous effort. Preparation began back in June when the tree was selected in Randalstown Forest, the cost of which was covered by Costcutters on Main St and kindly transported to Portglenone on a Clady Timber lorry .  Fullans  Eurospar contributed to purchase of presents. All of the businesses in the village contribute financially to make this event a great success for the community. A Big Thank You to them all!

There have been regular committee meetings and tasks carried out by all our Chip Elves clocking up at least 330 voluntary hours !! We have been able to engage almost 50 volunteers from our community (children & adults ).
Jobs included  collection and erection of  tree and street lights,  venue and grotto preparation, choir practice, parade managed by CRS  mulled wine and shortbread dished out by 3 glamorous elves !!! and face painters adding colour to the faces of the smiling children!
To top it all Santa travelled down Main Street on horse and carriage provided by OB Construction , his little helpers from the 2 local primary schools Bailey Kerr and Cormac Mc Kay  accompanied him in  switching  on  the Christmas tree lights on the 4th of December.

Thanks to the  Wilduck who provided the Riverside suite where Santa greeted over 200 children in his grotto.
Many shops remained open until late adding to the festive atmosphere in the village.
Thank you To All who contributed to keeping the Spirit of Christmas alive in our village of Portglenone!
